One’s diminishing interest in the nuts and bolts of cheating a cheat can be forgiven when the sheer star wattage of the peppy cast is in close-up overdrive. Combined with the usual bursts of candy-colored song and dance, director Maneesh Sharma has made a glossy magazine spread come to life more than an original tale of girl retribution.

Back in July of 2001, Hotline’s Media Monitor featured then Time Magazine White House correspondent Jay Carney. Now that he’s White House Press Secretary and we thought we’d provide a look back at his interview.

Where’s your hometown? What was it like growing up there?

I’m a rare Washington, D.C. native. Born at Georgetown Hospital. Grew up in the Virginia ‘burbs, though. Was an odd place in some ways, very transitory. The D.C. suburbs lack a sense of identity, though politics was a bigger deal here than in most hometowns of course. In 1974, I think it was, I remember finding a discarded strand of audio tape along the curb of my street — probably from an 8-track — and being convinced I had stumbled across the missing minutes of the Watergate tapes. I was 9.

What was the last book you read?

Not counting political and history books, “Death in Summer” by William Trevor. Trevor is brilliant, though very spare and bleak. John McCain recommended him to me on his trip to Vietnam a year ago. “Blindness” by Jose Saramago before that. Am now re-reading “Love in the Time of Cholera,” which I came across recently. Extremely romantic, but not soft. Garcia Marquez’ prose is muscular, potent stuff.

Who’s your favorite musician/band?

Without question, the greatest rock and roll band in the history of the world is Guided By Voices, Dayton, Ohio’s gift to American culture. The older stuff — from the mid-90s — is best. If you love melodic, lo-fi pop with a touch of lyrical genius, go buy “Bee Thousand,” “Propeller” or “Alien Lanes.”

What’s your favorite color?

I’m with Tapper. Who has a favorite color at 36?

What’s your favorite place to shop?

Starbucks. And Olsson’s.

What’s your favorite restaurant in Washington?

Zuki Moon, maybe. Or Ten Penh. Most frequented: Burrito Brothers. What’s your favorite food? Used to think I could live on humus and pita. Not anymore. Now I think it’s Vietnamese clay pot caramel pork.

How did you end up in journalism?

Thought I was a “writer” in high school. Got involved in college journalism, for a magazine instead of the school paper. Then fell into studying Russian and the Soviet Union in college and decided I wanted to go to Moscow as a reporter. Graduated in 1987 — perfect timing.

Out of everything you’ve covered, what’s been your favorite story?

The collapse of the Soviet Union. My entire three years in Moscow, from 1990-1993, bifurcated by the failed coup of August 1991. Every day was a journalist’s dream.

What’s the best thing about your job?/What’s the worst thing about your job?

Best: getting paid to talk to people, read a lot and then write about it all. Worst: realization that your story is next week’s fish wrap. (Does anyone wrap fish in newsprint anymore?)

Does Bush have a nickname for you?

Jay-boy during the campaign. More recently Carni (pronounced Car-neye).

What did you do to pass the time during Campaign 2000?

Hang out, eat and drink with the Bush Press Bubble — a great group of folks.

What’s your most embarrassing on-the-job moment? (Or as embarrassing as you’d like to reveal?)

So many to choose from. I actually was the anchor for a pilot episode of a Hotline television show about six or seven years ago. I was appalling at it. Another time, in 1990 or ’91, I was having an ear piece put in when I was in Moscow and overheard Robin MacNeil or Jim Lehrer say, incredulously, “How old is this guy, 15?”

Do you have a prediction for the WH 2004 matchup?

McCain-Gore. (Despite solid approval ratings, Bush decides not to run for re-election, takes MLB commissioner job instead).

And finally, we’re ending this feature with a question posed by the last interviewee. This one’s from Newsweek’s Howard Fineman. Is there a political TV show you would refuse to do? If so, which one?

At least four people were killed and 40 injured after whipping winds sent metal stage rigging crashing down to the crowd at a concert in the Indiana State Fair on Saturday night, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Dr. Busuttil had noted that although iTunes a predominantly online music platform where many European consumers legally buy and download music is, it is not available to consumers in Malta. Legal obstacles, in particular local laws relating to intellectual property, are often cited as reasons '' prevents them from their service in Malta.

So You Think You Can Dance

We come to the end of the road. Season 8 of "so you Think You Can Dance" close tomorrow with the crows of both Marko, Sasha, Tadd or Melanie.

RIM, the company behind the BlackBerry brand has been at the end of the firing of late when it comes to the press coverage with a lot of stories circulating about whether the company has a future.

It is therefore with no surprise RIM fired back this week and decided to let their products do the talking. The first is the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 due for launch in UAE by the end of August.

The BlackBerry Bold has since its fourth iteration of the series began and I have been happy the owner of all four devices. I actually had the bold 9900 seen for the first time in May of this year I on BlackBerry World in Orlando that when when RIM had made the announcement of what eagerly waiting for the next part of the ever-popular series of BlackBerry Bold devices was awaited. I had the chance to actually play with the bold 9900 at that time but in the last one week, the local Office of RIM sent me a handset to use and I must say that I was impressed.

As with any device, there are some things that you like and some things that you do not like. I have in this case likely to say, I found more things General.

The keyboard is the talking point if RIM has always recognized for the fact that one of the best keyboards out there and this time they haven't disappointed us. The keyboard is the largest that RIM has ever had for one of their devices, and even if your fat thumbs, it's easy enough to use.

Touch & Type functionality

What I have been the most loved the Touch & Type functionality. The screen on the Bold 9900 can be used as a touch screen so if you want to check a message quickly, Browse through Facebook or just open a menu, tap the screen. You have still the trackpad to do all that for you if you want. However, there is no keyboard on the screen so that everything has via the physical keyboard to type. I can actually not very. It is liberating to know that you can swipe through photos on your phone or zoom without relying on a touchpad, mainly because that is what most touch-only devices do best. Touch & Type is not new, RIM has talked about the torch 9800 but I prefer a candybar phone design instead of a slider so that it is for me a winner.

"I hated girls," says Anastasia at any given time, its contempt casting on some wee ballerinas. Thankfully, there are dancing and singing bandits to amuse her (and us), a few flashes of the knife and a snow Queen who wavers in a darkened window as if through a dark pond.

The Treasury hit back against standard poor's & historical downgrade from the us to AA + from its top-notch AAA lashing out against her credibility, as well as his judgement.

Saturday In a blog post on Treasury's website titled "Just the facts: S & P's 2 trillion error," John Bellows, Treasury Deputy Assistant Secretary for economic policy, says S & P "presented an opinion on the rating of the USA which was based on an error 2 trillion."

Bellows says "error that the fundamental questions about the credibility and integrity of S & P's ratings action."

White House Advisor Gene Sperling is added: "the size of their error combined with their willingness to simply change the spot their rationale for lead in their press release once the error was pointed out was breathtaking."

The "error" is largely a difference of opinion about what growth rate on an annual basis to use to calculate how quickly Government spending on discretionary programs over the next ten years will grow, or percentages, GDP growth or inflation expected.

S & P used GDP growth estimates of 5%, which means, expenditure would grow 5% per year over the next ten years, or $ 1.8 trillion.

But Treasury says use of lower inflation results in lower expenditure projections. The rates are in use here come from the bipartisan Congressional Budget Office. Support of Treasury here is the fact that US GDP growth is now average about 2% for 2011.

Bellows says S & P's approach caused the "dramatically overestimating expected deficits — by $ 2 trillion over 10 years."

Whereas Treasury had noted S & P this "basic math error of significant consequences", says Bellow "S & P still chose to continue with their poor judgment by simply changing their primary reason for their credit rating decision from an economic to a political one." Rich Edson, FOX Business Washington D.C. correspondent, the Treasury post has obtained and breaking news on D.C. the reaction to the downgrade.

After admission to the error, S & P put out a statement saying that, anyway, the downgrade was based on the creditworthiness of u.s. debt over a period of three to five years, while Treasury forecasts for the public debt is based on a period of 10 years.

S P & early Saturday morning in the released statement said that the $ 2 trillion math error its decision to downgrade is not changed. S & P says that its sovereign ratings officials in Europe before announcing the downgrade after the markt's close had consulted.

S & P's downgrade is expected to affect the financing costs for Government, industry and consumers by possibly raising them later with 0.7% or more, at a time when the u.s. economy ground to a halt in the first half and average annual economic growth less than 2% is trending for 2011.

U.s. 10-year Treasuries fell to less than 3% to settle at 2.6% in Friday trading, as investors fled the turmoil in Europe, which means that a question mark hangs over the amount of borrowing costs could rise given the downgrade.

S & P also held American debt on a credit negative outlook, as it is concerned the "bitter" battles in Washington has made "political stalemate," meaning deficit reductions frustrates. Moody's Investors Service and Fitch Ratings confirmed their AAA rating for the USA Aug. 2, the day President Barack Obama signed the increase in the ceiling debt in law, avoiding standard.

The math error, along with S & P's decision to u.s. State and local debt in its decision to downgrade, when State and local governments can cut or tax their way to the fiscal health, are part of the controversial back story to S & P's historic move.

The 15 boys and girls are members of the Broomwood Beaver colony of the 12th/14th Battersea Westside Scout group in South London.

The storm forward motion slowed on Wednesday night and it seemed likely at the southern tip of the Dominican Republic, which shares Hispaniola island with Haiti skirt. Emily had maximum sustained winds of 50 mph (80kph).

Dominican authorities held a tropical storm warning in effect for the South-western coast but ended up a warning on Wednesday night from Cabo Francés Viejo South-East to Cabo año.

Singapore's online citizen journalism Portal Stomp came away the biggest winner at the fourth Awards Singapore Infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF), which was held on Tuesday evening in Doctor House.
Stomp beat eight other finalists – after the initial list with 24 applicants was cropped – to win the best mobile application. Significantly, it was also selected from a shortlist of 52 finalists to take home the coveted judges Choice award.

The judges Choice award, which was inaugurated last year, is awarded to innovations that have the greatest market potential.

On the whole, there were 13 categories with 177 entries, which was an increase of 20 percent compared to last year.

A press release said that the stump app was chosen "for the smart use of mobile technology" for the immediate news broadcasts, thus promoting citizen journalism. The WINS were especially pleasing if this was the first time Stomp the competition entered.

Mr Chew V Ming, editor of Stomp, said: "winning the awards confirms what the Stomp team has done by connecting, engaging and interacting with our readers."

After all, you don't want to suffer too much gear that is just too heavy to tote around all day, but you won't want to miss that priceless shot because water got in your expensive camera. Here is a peak within my holiday Gear bag and why I could not leave home without these gadgets.

* LG sensation 4 G: this review unit of AT&T literally arrived just as I was to leave on my trip so I decided to give it to see how it would perform on the road. I will compare the performance with the HTC Evo 3D in a forthcoming revision.
* Nintendo 3 DS & Nintendo DS Lite: I'll admit it: I currently am addicted to playing Nintendogs + cats on my 3 Nintendo DS so I couldn't leave my virtual dog behind, but the 3 DS poor battery life means my DS Lite will be a more reliable source of entertainment when I use the 3 DS can't load. I realize that the 3 DS is backward-compatible with DS games so that the newer device will suffice for most people, but this way I can play in multiplayer mode with my friends. One can never be too many handheld portable gaming consoles, in my humble opinion.
* Asus Eee 901 netbook with a wireless mouse, Virgin Mobile 3 G USB Modem, Porsche + LaCie 750 GB portable hard drive and retractable headset: The 8.9? EEE netbook is small and light enough to slide in my carry-on and yet powerful enough for me to write from anywhere. While I don't mind using my netbook touchpad, I find that I can get things done faster with an external mouse, so I tend to pack a along, just in case. Having never stayed in my hotel before, I had no idea what kind of Internet connection is available, so I decided to drop by my Virgin Mobile USB Modem 3 G for insurance. My retractable headet is an accessory very space efficient to convert my netbook in a VoIP phone and entertainment unit when needed. I also packed the portable hard drive 500 GB LaCie Porsche and so I can backup my photos from my smartphone SD card to a more reliable source. The small form factor and large capacity really made the hard disk is a no-brainer.
* Samsung Infuse 4 G: the massive 4.5? SUPER AMOLED touchscreen is a great advantage when I don't have time to whip out my glasses to scan my emails. Plus, his rear 8-megapixel camera offers fairly accurate colors and captures shots relatively quickly, so I don't have to bother with a point-and-shoot.
* Nokia N900: this smartphone can be from 2009 but its smaller display on 3.5? means that it's easier to slip into most pockets, plus its rear 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss Optics can be accessed via an external button and the Carl Zeiss lens cover, which means that I can capture images quickly to open.

BLOEMENDAAL (Idaho) — A study of internet speeds in an article from the Huffington Post says Idaho has the slowest internet of each Member State, and that when it comes to cities across the country, Pocatello takes last place.
The company Pando networks said it tracked download speeds of about 4 million users across the country for five months to the average internet speeds.

But some of the internet service providers in Pocatello are having a hard time believing the report.

"Overall, I'd say Pocatello has pretty good connection speeds in the metro area," big dog Internet Operations Manager Kenny Pfamenstiel said.
Others, however, said that there is truth in what the report shows about Pocatello of internet speed.

"Well, there are certainly problems here with the internet," Galaxy Computer service manager Lee Adams said.
The people of Galaxy Computer said they have experience with just about all internet-options in Pocatello, and they say that one of the problems is choice.

"There is not a lot of options for high speeds," says Adams.
The report said that Pocatello averages a download speed of 251 kbps, which means that it would be around 15 minutes to download one of the greatest Youtube videos.
The local Isps said that if people want more speed, they have options that are much faster.

Although faster Internet options are available, according to some cost is a problem.

"She's too high a price, to make it cost prohibitive for the end user. So yes, pricing is definitely a problem, "says Adams.

But for some people in Pocatello, high speed internet may not be something that they need.

Whales, dolphins and dogs may also evolve. We already know elephants are much smarter than any of us ever realized. It is only our own ignorance and narcissism that prevents us really look and see what animals really are.

The film is infused with our terror and uncertainty about the world that we have built for ourselves. There is a sense that we the hand that we have dealt with have taken — a hefty hand, six million years or so of evolution — and royally fucked things. Most of the country is medication to curb of depression, even children. The truth is that our technology is much faster than we can manage and while we live longer we also are concerned about the future-a future that is seeming less and less hopeful as time progresses.

RE: Battlefield 3 alpha process. OK, here goes. So far, even though it is an early build of the game I feel that it's that much of Battlefield 2 has not changed, but it has been moved to Battlefield: Bad Company 2 with the Rush-mode that I played.

Graphics are very good, as expected, but if I'm using a beta graphics driver and there is some tearing. Some of the animations stop randomly, usually work jumping and crawling, but they come back. Sounds are a little weed and most guns sound the same. Perhaps kills some balancing necessary with the guns as some seem to have one single, no headshot while others take forever. Haven't had the chance to still use a tank, so I can't comment.

There are a few areas where there is choke points that result in fire fights which is very exciting and parts were there would be more coverage for making approaches. The areas so far, the Park, the metro with a bunch of small rooms and close quarters and the streets complete with accessible buildings for sniping. The destruction aspect, I think, is not yet fully implemented or put in, but it is still possible to blow holes in buildings to clear those pesky snipers/campers.
